New Years Eve, 2010:

It is customary to have set a number of resolutions by New Years Eve. Goals, aspirations, desires for the New Year. Some become fulfilled, most, in all honesty, don’t.

So I propose a new tradition. Forget resolutions. Let’s remember. Let’s look back on the past year and see all that has changed, how we have changed and what we have learned and what we will bring as we step over the threshold into 2011.

Me? What have I learned? Well I’m so glad you asked!

  • I’ve learned that when you ask God to change your heart, he does. I have prayed for my heart to be broken, that I may learn compassion and while there is a long way to go, I know my heart is not as thick of a piece of granite it once was.
  • I’ve learned that things cannot stay the same. Nor do I want them to.
  • I’ve learned that feelings are natural and should be acknowledged, embraced but not allowed to rule.
  • I’ve learned that people are a blessing, not a nuisance. It is a privileged to walk with people and to share each others joys and sorrows.
  • I’ve learned that I love being a photographer and that I hate editing. Thus pushing me to be a better photographer so I can do less editing! *grin*
  • I’ve learned to run 5K and to LOVE it.
  • I have learned that French pressed coffee is amazing.

So over the threshold… This year I hope for an open heart, people to love on, health for my family and lots of sunshiny days.

And to maybe lose 5 lbs? Oh right, no resolutions!

Welcome back! You’ve encouraged me to look back on what I’ve learned this year as well. I’ve decided that instead of resolutions, like you, I’m going to focus on things I’d like to see from the year (so things I tell myself all the time “I really want to run an official 5K” and “I really enjoy feeling healthy - I want to make choices that make me feel healthy.”

A blessed and wonderful 2011 to you!

Welcome back, my friend! I loved this. I have written, rewritten, and deleted a “new year’s post”, and this - this is so great! I love the new look of your blog - you must know a great web designer or something. Missed your writing, T.
