One of Juliet and Layla’s favorite bedtime songs is “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music. I’ve been singing it to them for several years now and occasionally we even belt it out on car rides. It’s proven to help us feel better, get over disappointments and heal up boo boos on more than one occasion. As I am in an ever constant pursuit of movies that I can watch with them (for a Mommy can only stand certain cartoons so many times) I did a quick mental recap of the movie in my head and decided it was time to introduce the girls to the von Trapp family.

My goodness, that movie gets better as you get older! I don’t think I’ve seen it in quite a few years and enjoyed it so much. Christopher Plummer becomes even more romantical, almost rivaling Colin Firth (Pride and Prejudice) in some of his lovely dovey looks. Even the slower parts, the more ballad type songs that I always fast forwarded through as a kid were wonderful. And the girls just loved the big family with kids of all ages running around. Although Juliet really wants to know why they all keep dancing and how they all know how to dance the exact same thing at the same time. The singing part is completely natural after all….

Then on Sunday night Craig, the girls and I watched Night at the Museum (uno) with the girls. Awesome! Craig and I had seen it when it first came out several years ago and I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t a single moment I had to telegraphically tell Craig to skip or turn down the volume.  We just might take the girls over to Colonia (teeny theater in town) to see the second one! Oh and Craig was SO proud as Layla identified Ben Stiller as the voice of Alex the Lion from Madagascar all on her own!

My mother brought Jack and Emy to see the second one, and said it may just be better than the first! I know Lilli’s not old enough to blame it on, but I want to see it too. But that’s coming from the woman that dragged her husband to see Shrek 2 in theatres….
