Doors opening and closing. Take the road to the right or the left? Road blocks. Crooked or straight. The high road or the low road.  These are just a few metaphors commonly used to describe the path of life.

Today was I reading in The Message translation in the book of Romans. This is from the very end of chapter 9.  It stars off by talking about the children of Israel, in the midst of all their pursuit of God and living by the law completely missed what God was doing.

“How could they miss it? Because instead of trusting God, they took over. they were absorbed in what they themselves were doing. There were so absorbed in the “God projects” that they didn’t notice God right in front of them, like a huge rock in the middle of the road. And so they stumbled into him and went sprawling. Isaiah(again!) gives us a metaphor for pulling this together:

Careful! I’ve put a huge stone on the road to Mount Zion, a stone you can’t get around. But the stone is Me! If you’re looking for me, you’ll find me on the way, not in the way.”

I LOVE this! Forget what I think I should be doing. Forget trying to walking where I think I should walk. Forget what I think God should work out in my life, the where, when, and how. (Oh dear, I think I know everything so much of the time!) When I go and look for God, He will be there.  I won’t even have to search, he’ll just be there like a big rock in the road. Perhaps the text means something a little smaller, but in my head, he’s a an extremely obvious boulder like we sold at Dunlop. The kind you need a forklift to move.

And I’m amazed that as I sat down with my Bible this morning, not really sure of where to start before God, I flipped open to Romans and this is what was here, telling me plain as day that anytime I want to find God, He will be there. Seek and find. PTL. He is the Rock of my salvation.
